I think it also depends on the trans. I believe the 74 came with either 3spd, 4spd or 3spd torque flight. I think they varied between a 2.45 and 2.96 based on the trans.

If I were to take a Guess, I would say if it has the 8 3/4 rear, it probably is 2.76 ratio.

Perhaps someone else knows a good place to look this up.

In partial answer to your rear gears question I got my Chrysler Muscle Cars Ultimate factory guide out and it says: .......if your rear end is original that all 318 ci cars came with 3.23:1 rear end ratios . now if it was changed or you have a bigger motor all bets are off. Just jack the car up and put it in netrual , turn the drive shaft by hand and have some one count the number of times the real wheel turns for each complete revolution of the drive shaft....thats your ratio ...like above, your drive shaft would turn one whole turn to 3 and about 1/4 turns of the wheel......Hope I've been a little help....

That's great info Wayne. That is a great trick. I remember doing that on my Jeep way back when. Got a yellow wax marker pen, put a mark on the Driveshaft and on the Tire and cranked away.

That is a trick that has been done for many years and will get you basically in the ball park. Just remember to reverse it, turn the wheel one time and count the number of turns of the driveshaft, and put a mark on the driveshaft and on the tire with chaulk before you start. Does the rear in your car have a differential cover or a third member like a ford 9"? If it has a cover, it is a 7 1/4" and these did not come with 3.23 gears. If it has a third member, then it is an 8 3/4" and could have come with 2.76 or 3.23's.
