I'm at work right now and my car is in service. They just called me and told me my brakes need new rotors. I told them they were vibrating and thumping at braking at 60 + miles an hour to check them out. I don't understand how they can go so fast. I can feel the brakes in the pedal if you know the feeling.
This happen to anyone else???

Robert,
Seems a bit premature for 16,000 miles. Unfortunately, rotors and brakes are not warranty items. (very convenient). I would argue a bit as brakes should go for at least 26,000-30,000 miles.

Robert , all I can add to your brake rotor problem is that I had new rotors and High performance ceramic pads put on my SUV and like 1,300 miles later the car was shimmying all over the place when I applied the brakes as it came to a stop trying to shake the wheel out of my hand and felt like a was riding a stop and go horse.......took it to get fixed and it was the new rotors ....the brake guy at Ford asked if i had done any real hard emergency stops and /or while trying to steer the car .....I said yes I had but I thought thats what ABS is for .....he said yea on regular braking but sometimes the very hard braking can warp the rotors .....so I had to change them again and about 3,000 milpes so far they are fine .....with the original ceramic pads ....
I'm not a brake specialist or professional brake man but good friends with the service advisor at this Ford place and I believe him ......thats all I got ...hope it maybe explains a little .....

Before I started working at Warnock, I did much more around town driving. Maybe now all highway they will last much longer.
The one mechanic I know and work with in used cars said, " our cars just sitting and the pads rusting right next to the rotors leaves high and low spots on the rotors". I try to find my own space and use my cruise control as much as possible.

Mine started warping at 9,000 miles. Dodge didn't count on us trying to stop these beasts. LOL you can cut them but theyll warp faster. Slotted and crossdrilled may be the best bet for you.

I wrote Chrysler about the brakes on our V6 Chargers and they told me they are only have a 12,000 mile warranty. But they thanked me for taking the time to write to them about my car for future owners.

The factory rotors are junk and will continue to warp. Thow them away. I bought my SXT with 19k on it and the rotors were great. By 25k they were warped like crazy. I bought new drilled/slotted fronts from R1 Concepts (I believe) and Autozone gold ceramics. I now have 58k on the car and couldn't be happier. The only difference is a little more noise from the brakes but that is normal with the rotor/pad combo.

The whole problem with these rotors that they are (quite possibly) the composite type rotors that were factory equipment on the Jeep Liberty. Those rotors were well known for warping due to the metals they were made out of. The part that "sat" on the hub was high grade steel, but the part the pads contacted were made of lower grade steel.
I may be wrong, but just my opinion.

Yes, the composite material they are made of is probably designed for a particular shelf life and or driving habits etc. I have 31,000 miles on my original rotors and pads with no warpage at all. Brakes are fine. I do want to upgrade to R1 stuff when they go. I have to say, the Dodge rotors are superior to the GM stuff. My 06 Impala I drive for work has gone thrrough a 2 sets of rotors and pads and I have 53,000 miles on that vehicle.
