The main question is... do you want it for performance or for sound.  Most of the open top CAI's really add to the sound of the car, but don't really force enough cold air in for them to add performance.  Truth is, in the summer with the radiator on one side and the overflow on the other, they become a Hot Air Intake, making your car perform worse.

A true CAI would be closed like ourstock unit and may direct more air from under where the stock box sits into the intake.

So, In my opinion, if you are going for the sound of it, its really more a choice of which one you like the look of.  If you are going for performance, you want to check our the ones that Steve @ RDP sells.  You can find RDP on our sponsor page or sponsor area in the forums.

I READ YOUR REPLY ON THE AIR INTAKE AND WAS WONDERING WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE MOPAR AIR INTAKE AND WHICH ONE YOU THINK GIVES STRONGER SOUND.

If I may ad my 2 cents for what its worth....(not much ) ...lol.....anyway I can only speak to what I know for sure .....I know 3 other CHALLENGER owners and one CHARGER owner that has the " AIRAID " brand cold air intake. Those other owners are the ones that recommended it to me . My personal experience with this brand to me is great ......to me the total quality is there in the complete kit, its very easy to install with complete directions and pictures , you do not have to make any modifications to your car, the filter is washable and reusable, the intake tube is a heavy hard plastic that does not hold the heat long. Tony, ( Hemi in Bayville ) installed it with a little of my help and to me his opinion counts on performance stuff and he said it was a nice quality kit. I also agree on the plastic tube over the metal one that comes with the mopar kit as the metal does hold a little more heat and it holds it longer.

The end result is ....you may like the big blue " M " on the " Mopar " unit , or the looks of a different brand like " K&N " , but in the end there really is not a lot of difference so go for what you like or the best price!

I got my Airaid kit and my Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers from AUTOANYTHING the week before the 4th of July and they had a sale going for 15% off and free shipping ......just a tip to keep your eyes open for like Fathers day or whatever for more sale discounts.

One final note .....my Airaid CAI gave my 5.7 Ltr Hemi a very deep throaty growl on acceleration ...I LOVE IT !!

Good luck in whatever you decide to buy .....its all good ......MODS ARE FUN!!!

checkout http/rotofab.com

looks interesting. I've been thinking about ordering one. I like the fact that it is walled off from the under hood heat and pulls air from underneath similar to the stock box. Does anyone have one of these?

I been reading lots of info on CAI's I found this info on another site :
Mopar is working on a design similar to the AEM Brute Force piece. Its actually made by the same company only that it'll be labeled MOPAR once all the regulations and EPA certification has been met.

There's a guy over on the "talk" Amechnut is his handle. He is the one testing out the unit for them. It should be out soon

Also, StackPerformance has a similar unit out called the Bullet.

Lot's of debate on this. Most "pro's" say stock air box gives the best performance, everything else is just 'HP' sound. Like 'Jersey Tech guy' said most turn into a HOT AIR INTAKE. With that being said, I chose the K & N FPIK II. They claim a 21 HP increase (Dyno tested) not sure of the test conditions they had to achieve this though.. I do like the sound of the unit, plus I got it for undr $270 shipped off ebay. Bottom line if you want sound, pick what looks best to you. Want HP, stick to the stock box.

The first mod i did to my SRT10 was a JMB cold air kit, which is a metal style kit. I did this mostly for the looks of the unit...but i can tell you that it did make a seat of the pants feel as well as a slight increase in performance. By slight i mean stock the truck would lay down 10-15 feet of rubber shifting into second, with the CAI it went to about 45-50 feet : ) But the Viper motor is known for being choked up in stock trim.

To address underhood temps, i can say that i did a very cheap (about 10 bucks) mod...I went to Radio Shack and bought a resistor, wired it inline with the Intake Air Temp sensor, and used heat shrink tubing to cover it. The resistor tricks the IAT into thinking the incoming air is 10-15 degrees cooler. This helps by "tricking" the computer when it pulls out timing due to high temps. It has worked very well, and alot of the SRT10 owners are doing this. I'm sure it could work on the Chally/Chargers/Mags too.

There is alot of info out there and I think I tend to agree with others when they say buy what you think is the best. I just ordered a C&L model H401. It has a semi-sealed box for the filter and takes the air from underneath. It also has a large aluminum tube with a smooth bend (I think this is important) to keep velocity up. A sharp 90 degree bend at the throttle body can affect air flow. The price was good. $286 drop shipped direct. Also went for a catch can and new billet shifter knob, shaft, and plate.

Great Ken!

I know you have been agonizing over this. Can't wait to see everything installed.

I personally own a K&N unit, which gives me a very nice sound. Did it do much for power? slightly in terms of butt dyno results. However, I do plan to run a tube down under to draw as much cold air as possible. If you note, right under the intake filter, is a nice big hole. Run a tube from the TB down through that hole and put the intake filter down there, and that should help with any hot air issues during the summer.

another wrinkle, if you go to the k&n website the cai available for my car, srt8, are not street legal in new jersey. one guy told me it may make my "check engine" light or it may throw a code. i don't think any of this is true probably just cya from k&n. still something to think about.
