I want to clean out my engine bay etc. I was looking at some engine cleaner at Griot's and was looking for advice on using. Do you spray it on and the hose it off? If you hose it off do you have to cover any of the electrical stuff? Any suggestions??

Vinnie,
I would cover any elec stuff you see.. Griots has instructions on how to do it on the product and may have a video on their website.

I know this will sound like a dumn question, but Is using a pressure washer on a mud coated engine bay a bad idea?

a regular hose will work fine on the mud to get the caked up stuff off then u can wipe with a soapy rag to clean it up good....i wouldnt pressure wash it tho....and i dont cover up anything when i wash my engine, but i got a mud truck and everything is sealed under the hood of my truck water tight.

Ok, I will try that. I used to play in the mud with my truck and now I want it clean under the hood. I have started to clean stuff and also accented some things with a silver paint pen. I wanted some things to shine in daylight and reflect the red L.E.D.s behind my grill at night.

Regular soap and water and a little reg house cleaner works if your engine isn't covered in gunk and oil. Just use like a tire brush and get as much as you can reach. No need to use harsh chemicals if not needed. Simple Green works great and environmental safe. Blow all the water out with an air compressor if you have one. Gets dirt out of tight places to. Just my 2 cents. Our engines shouldn't be covered gunk so early..
