Most old school 3 speed transmission floor shift conversions are pretty straight forward. I assume you have a 727 torqueflite automatic? If so, a shifter swap is very basic.

You will need a suitable 3 speed capable shifter with appropriate cable to connect to your trans for gear selection.

You could do a number of different things with your column depending upon how particular you are. You could simply leave it in (disconnected of course), you could just remove the pin that holds the handle on the collar, or you could swap out the whole collar for one that came out of a 4 speed car. Either way, the gear indicator on your column will no longer be used. You'll be relying on the indicator on the new shifter on the floor.

Take some pics of the swap as you go and don't forget to post them up. We'd love to see that one!

Only one other thing... Cutting the whole in the trans tube part of the floor pan. Getting this right is very important. The more acurate you are the less splash-up from rain and puddles. (and the wind). Some kits come with a slotted gromet and others don't. You can make one from a rubber inner tube if needed. And always re-paint the cut out to protect it from rusting.
